The image circa 1880’s was captured at Burlington and Main st in Downers Grove.
I photographed this image in a local store front window near the site of the photo.
Main Street train station and parking lot would be built later on the left side of the image.
The before shot corrects the exposure and extracts detail from the shadows.
The after image has been reoriented & the image details extracted. I added a color layer, an orange tone filter, for color adjustment in order match the both “after images.
The before image was taken on 1/31/21 during the snow storm. I attempted to frame the shot as close as possible to the original vintage shot hoping to show the progress made in the village with respect to the buildings and the train station parking areas.
The after image was an extraction of the people and blending them into the new image. I brushed out legs and sharpened the images and adding snow to their shoes and garments for additional “realism”.
Potentional uses of these techniques are restoration of vintage photo images and compositing images for a marketing campaign especially one emphasizing business longevity. Still images can also be effectively used in video compositing.
Ken Burns effects are effective techniques to imply motion utilizing still images. We took 4 hours of time lapse photos and imported them into our video editing software to create a video of an artist creating a mural in downtown Downers Grove.
Ken Burns effects are utilized in this pandemic era video during the "boarding up" effort we experienced in 2020. The video can be viewed through this link.

Just because the sun is not out doesn’t mean we can’t illuminate a scene. This image was captured at the Fishel Park band shell on a cloudy day.
Despite your best efforts it is often impossible to capture aerial images without some unintended presence being in the image. Unexpectedly work crew arrive with their equipment, birds, pets, people and are captured in the image. Often it is not possible for the photographer to exclude themselves from the shot. Fortunately we have several software tools that can help remove those elements from still and video imaging.
Branches are poking into the before frame. Debris is in the spillway and despite your best efforts you can't position yourself to eliminate a pumping station on the shore line.
The after image corrects those deficiencies. The before image was also color corrected to extract maximum detail in the image.
In this image the exposure was increased. A now outdated sign was removed. Shadows were pulled from the front door, belfry and stained glass windows to reveal the underlying detail.
Landscapers and designers that want to display their work may find that their work is being overshadowed by objects that intrude on their image. We can adjust that for you.
Signage on a local business establishes their identity and creates a destinctive design element. Exposure to the elements causes a gradual degradation to natural materials like wood and metal.
Using our in house image enhancement tools we corrected the issues and the signage provides more impact for use on menu and advertising layouts. The light fixture shadows were also removed.
